got a 2x3 Graflex Speed Graphic and it had a sticky lens and i just wanted it gone through by a professional so i sent it to Jerry Gordon Jr (of the Graflex Garage) and its PERFECT now...
i dont want to bother him with this mundane question although we kinda sorta did talk about it. just not in enough depth for me.
he tested all of the curtain (focal plane) shutter speeds and made a little business card sized data card similar to the metal plate installed by the factory way back in november 1938.
first off, the speeds are considerably different between the two which doesnt concern me given the fact the camera is just shy of 90yrs old.
secondly, is it typical for the shutter speeds to be nearly identical as these cameras age?
the A #1 shutter speed is 1/30
the A #2 shutter speed is 1/32
the A #3 shutter speed is 1/35
#4 is 1/38, #5 1/40, and #6 1/45
slit B (?) is a little bit more spaced out, 90, 100, 110, 115, 120, 130.
slit C and slit D again are a bit more spaced out (1/30 to 1/32 of a second is AWFULLY close to being identical and functionally the same, on the A slit)...
anyway, i like the little card, i LOVE Jerry's work and i guess the cost is very reasonable considering they havent made speed graphics for at least 60 years... _________________ Air Force veteran who's trying to make it in the photography world |
