|
|
Some time back I scored a full-plate R.B. Cycle Graphic (ca. 1908-1917). I am having a heck of a time finding plate holders for it. (I am heavily into shooting J. Lane Dry Plates.)
The problem is that every full-plate plate holder that comes up on eBay is wider than the one full-plate _film_ holder I have (189mm) and wider than the width of the opening in the spring/Graphic back (192.5mm).
Unlike 4x5, 5x7 et al. full-plate holders were not standardized. Even the width of a full-plate holder noted to be Folmer Graflex in an article in largeformatphotography (ca. 2011) was wider (196mm) than will fit in my Cycle Graphic.
Any thoughts? |

The plate holders you're finding that are too wide for your Cycle are likely for Graflex backs on Graflex SLR's.
One member that has not posted in a very long time has a Cycle Graphic with a low 4 digit serial number putting it in the mid 1890's.
Finding holders for your camera will be difficult. _________________ The best camera ever made is the one that YOU enjoy using and produces the image quality that satifies YOU. |

45PSS, thank you for your reply. The lack of standardization of whole plate holders was discussed in an article in September 2011 in LargeFormatPhotography.
I've found that even whole-plate film holders in the right size are rare indeed. My plan is to keep looking. Maybe some day I'll find someone who is complaining that their plate/film holders are too narrow for their view camera.
At some point, I'll lash out and buy ones that are a few mm wider and then mill it down to fit the 192mm opening in the Graphic back. |
