|
|
I have a problem with two sheet film holders. When I load the two sheet film holders, I am very careful to make sure that the film is in the grooves on each side and the dark slide is about half way in. Then I close the flap and push the dark slide all the way in. Yet, sometimes [way too often] after I have taken the photograph and put the dark slide in, the film has pulled away far enough from the film holder base that the dark slide pushes the film into the camera chamber. The result is a film jam and the negative is lost.
It happens with 4"x5" Kodak Porta & Ektar, Ilford HP5+ and FP4+.
It happens with plastic Lisco film holders is like new condition. It also has happened with metal film holders.
So it has happened with all kinds of dark slides. I thought that if I standardized on Lisco film holders it would not happen any more, but that is not the case.
What am I doing wrong and how do I prevent this problem.

Steve;
Just a wild guess on my part!
Are you sure that you have the sheet of film all the way in the holder and the end of the sheet of film under the lip at the end of the holder opposite the flap?

maybe you aint getting the film all the way in as far as you should
the holder has film guides down 2 sides & 1 end if your not getting
it under the end guide & the film bows up in the center the dark slide
would hit & push out
OR if you get the Emulsion side down this mite happen as the film
can curl on the Emulsion side the film dow up and come out when
the dark slide is pull out |

I think that I am not getting the film into the groove at the end. I have been told to withdraw the dark slide [and here I thought that the withdraw method was prone to failure!] and run a fingernail around the edge of the film on the three sides to make sure that it is in the groove. Being in the groove must be important because in the 1960's everyone was saying "Groovy".
