Who can repair the shutter of my RB Auto Graflex? Anyone in the Washington DC, Virginia or Maryland area so that I do not have to risk shipping the camera.

Does the curtain have any noticeable holes or tears? _________________ The best camera ever made is the one that YOU enjoy using and produces the image quality that satifies YOU. |

No. There are two problems:
1) The shutter cloth was moving and now it is stuck.
2) Even when I could change the slit size, when I tripped the shutter the mirror moved up but the shutter did not fire. I has another RB Auto user look at it last night and he said that something in the linkage [mechanics] is not properly adjusted or a part in not in the right place.

Will the shutter cloth move when lever M is pulled backward?
Is slide D (wheel on older Graflexes) in the I (instanteous) position? _________________ The best camera ever made is the one that YOU enjoy using and produces the image quality that satifies YOU. |

Yes, both increases & decreases, That works well.
The A key is temperamental.
When the camera is triggered the mirror goes up but the shutter does not move. _________________ Nothing beats a good piece of glass. |

The next step would be remove the back and see if the curtain is hanging up on something. Then would be removing the wind plate and fixing whatever is wrong.
Did you see my PM about a CLA? _________________ The best camera ever made is the one that YOU enjoy using and produces the image quality that satifies YOU. |

The Private Message (PM) function header says "log in to see your messages" just left of the log in link, once loged in it will say how many messages you have. Click on the "you have X new message(s) " or click on the log in to see your messages which takes you to the log in form then upon loging in you are taken to your PM inbox. _________________ The best camera ever made is the one that YOU enjoy using and produces the image quality that satifies YOU. |

Got it. One last effort before I ship it out.

I have researched this section for "stuck shutter" and found the following causes:
1. Lever D not fully at the I position, 98%-99%. This also locks lever L. From memory it does not have to be off the end of travel more than 1mm to 2 mm, 3/32 inch or less.
2. The curtain is hung on the top of the case, usually at the top roller, about 1%. To remove the back remove the 4 flat head screws across the top and 4 across the bottom, rotating the back is necessary to get access to all 8, remove the 2 each side oval head screws on the sides of the back, then loosen the rear 2 screws of the wind plate 1 turn and lift the back off the camera.
3. Roller gear worn down due to very heavy use, less than 1% .
4. Wind gear bent due to someone forcing the wind key while the shutter was locked, less than 1%. _________________ The best camera ever made is the one that YOU enjoy using and produces the image quality that satifies YOU. |
