Are Doran and FR tanks the same thing ?
Never saw one in real life, so I must ask.

Yes.
Doran is later, not sure when Fink-Roselieve went under, but in looking at a couple of Doran tanks, it's pretty obvious they are using the same molds and machined out "FR" and machined in 'DORAN" a little deeper.
Two words of caution. the lid is made of THREE pieces: the cover, the light trap and a bar. If you don't have all three it won't work.
Two: if you use a straight developer, poor it in, in the dark, then add the lid. You'll have less change of streaking the film this way. With dilute developers or pre-wetting the film, it's not as bad. The Yankee and HR tank has the FR tank beat in this regard as they use removable baskets and one piece lids. _________________ "In order to invent, you need a good imagination and a lot of junk" Thomas Edison |

For the fr tank, the manufacturer suggests a side-to-side agitation. I have been using one of these tanks and have noticed a tendency to have uneven development (that is streaks on the negatives). A side-to-side agitation with a tipping motion at the end will prevent this problem.
