Has anyone dealt with them, either for purchase or to sell them gear? I have not yet had any dealings with them, but they seem to have a lot of offbeat and attractive things and I may want to sell them a few items. |

I was just there yesterday! They seem reputable -- A typical old-time Photo District camera store. |

Good place, very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Like most of used camera dealers paying Manhattan rent, they aren't cheap, but they are reliable. |

Where are they located? I might drop by if I ever go to NYC again. |

Definitely worth a visit, and if you need something unusual, like Graflex-type filmholders or bag mags or a reduction back for a view camera, it's worth asking. I was looking for some masks last week for my Linhof zoom finder, for instance, and they didn't have the ones I wanted, but they did have a bag of about a dozen or more assorted Linhof zoom finder masks. 33 W. 17th St. Info at lensandrepro.com. |

There is an empty storefront at 33 West; and then tot he right, where you think 31 would be, is the entrance to the elevator lobby.
They have a funky side-load elevator(!); and it's as slow as s**t -- Use the stairs to the 5th floor if you can |

Back in the day they were the guys in NYC. I have been shooting since 1977 and I will never forget having to place an order for the studio that I just became an assistant at. They gave me such a "who are you attitude". They were quite snobby for many years. I suspect their tude has changed by now. Their process were always a bit high but their used stuff was in great shape.
I think 2 guys named Jeff owned the place.
Good luck with them. _________________ Long Island Photographer

They have lots of great stuff but if you visit be ready to tell them what you're looking for -- it really isn't set up for browsing and they won't let you just wander around. Which is a pity, because if you know exactly what you'll want then you might as well search online for a while rather than calling them as your last resort because their prices are twice the market for a lot of their stuff. Glennview in Chicago is the same way -- they don't suffer fools. _________________ http://www.frankpetronio.com |
