My 880 is a recent eBay purchase. It came with AC adapter but no battery pack.

Is that battery pack for a 510v battery only, or are there capacitors or whatever contained in the battery pack?

I could be wrong, but the 880 is on my list of Non-internal-battery types. This would mean it's either AC only or may have used the 510 volt external pack. Maybe someone else knows better?
