I've found a possible use for a 2x3 film pack adapter if it will attach to a Graflok back. Don't know if FPAs do or don't.

Any advice welcome, and no, I don't intend to put film in one.

Thanks,

Dan

"Graphic" FPAs certainly work with "Graflok" backs. I used 4x5 and 2¼x3¼ filmpack with a "Speed" and a "Century" in the late '60s and early '70s, when it was still a live option.

I've thought that an FPA might serve as the basis for a groundglass panel -- and, to be sure, the "Graphic" base and darkslide would be a convenient starting-point for any kind of film adapter you might want to construct.

Thanks, TR.

I have one and every time I come across it, I think - geez, there MUST be a use for these things. So far, I haven't found that use.

Well, Glenn, what I have in mind is to couple two 2x3s into a tandem camera that will be able to use a 14" lens. As I calculate it, the least expensive way of keeping the dark in between front and rear camera is something that attaches to a Graflok + a tube with a board on it. Whence the question.

If it comes to that, I suppose I can sacrifice my 2x3 Graflok that didn't get a nibble on eBay with a $20 opening. But it would be better to sacrifice an FPA because those seem even less useful.

Cheers,

Dan

That sounds like it will work. It gives me an idea to play with, too. A pack adapter would be just the thing to make an extension back for extreme close ups, when you can't quite get enough bellows extension. Easier than making extended lens boards. I can't fathom a 20 dollar opener not getting any bites for a Graflok! They are so highly sought after.

My error. That was a Grafmatic that got no nibbles. Mea culpa.

Sorry,

Dan

May I jump in here? I am a new owner of a Speed Graphic 2x3 with a Graphic/spring back. From this site, I've learned that it is the least desirable of all the models (if I've understood correctly). Now, I am new to this site and new to this type of camera--I have a Nikon FM2 and a couple of Kodak Box cameras. I got this camera at a flea market and would like to try to use it. It came with an assortment of backs, including Graphic Film Holders, Type 5; Graphic Film Pack Adapters; and Grafmatic Film Holders. Will any of these work with available film? Or, have I read the site's info correctly and only a Graflok back will work. Again, I'm a real newbie, so I apologize if this is self apparent to you or I'm asking in the wrong place. However, any constructive suggestions will be most welcome. Thanks.

If you can get an emulsion you want to use in 2x3 sheet film -- choices are limited -- you can load it in a film holder or a Grafmatic. The film pack adapters take (surprise!) film in film packs, and these haven't been made for decades.

You can also use 120 film with your camera in an Adapt-A-Roll 620 roll holder. Search on this site for info about 'em.

Good luck,

Dan

Thank Dan. I'll scout around the site, as you suggested.

Black and white film is available in a couple of choices from J&C. Also, check out Freestyle Sales. Ilford makes 2x3 sheet film in the HP-5+, but may be scarce right now. Try B&H or Adorama for it. Color print and transparency film is limited to roll film or cutting your own sheets. The Graflok back is a nice feature to have on a 2X3 camera but it's by no means necessary. Have fun with it!

Apologies for the delay in acknowledging your posting; I've been away for a few days. Thanks for the details and suggestions. I'm quite keen to get this thing working.
