I just got my First Speed Gragpic and it was missing the viewfinder. Are these the same size for 3x4 & 4x5. I know there is a difference between the tubular type and the earlier but there is only a bracket and I'm not experienced enought to know what type, size goes on this Camera. It has a side mount rangefinder and a spring back w/"23" roll holder. Lens is 135 Zenar w/Copol shutter. Can anyone help?? |

There are 3 different optical viewfinders:
Cat. 9132 Pacemaker (Long model)
Cat. 9131 Pacemaker (Short Model)
Cat. 9134 Super Graphic
All use the same mask.
Speeds would use the Long, Crowns and Century the short. Either will fit on the mount.

In addition to the above list, there was also an earlier version of the tubular finder that was used on all Speed Graphics between 1939 and 1947. I believe there was only one size. So, if your 4 X 5 Speed Graphic is a very late (1939) Pre-Anniversary Speed Graphic or Anniversary Speed Graphic (1940 - early 1947), the correct tubular finder would be the earlier model I just described (smooth, glossy black finish). If your camera is a Pacemaker Speed Graphic or Super/Super Speed Graphic then use the list from the previous posting (a 4X5 Pacemaker Speed Graphic would use the "long" model).
If you have any trouble determining what model you have, let us know so we can help further. |

| Dave, did you try Stephen Shuart and Midwest Photo Exchange? IIRC, http://www.stephenshuart.com and http://www.mpex.com, respectively.
FWIW, I have 2 2x3s with side rangefinders and top viewfinders. They have, alas, more than a normal lens between them. Most of the time I shoot from tripod and focus and compose on the ground glass. I know this removes much of the speed from speed graphic, but still and all it is possible to work that way.
Cheers,
