Hello.
I have a Graphic View (not Graphic View II) with serial #484207. I understand from this website that they were constructed through 1949.
Is that a correct assumption? Would this camera be from 1948 vintage?
It has the usual red bellows, appears to have graflok back and has a replacement lens: Schneider Symmar 1:5.6/210mm Synchro Compur that was purchased about 30 years ago.
What do you figure the age is for sure? Just curious...what's it worth? I paid $200 and got the camera, lens, and about 15 Riteway and Lisco film cartridges, 4 or 5 metal sheet holders/dryer racks. It's all pristine condition.
many thanks in advance

The good book lists yours as a GVII and was made sometime in 1960-1961 |

Looks like my GV II is about the same age; the serial number is 48150.
Looks like folks who bought those cameras had a penchant for taking care of them, since mine is in exceptionally good shape. I paid a good bit more than $200 for it, though I still think I got a good deal, as it's a wonderful camera. |

The only thing I can't figure out is why the name on the plate on the front of mine only says "Graphic View" but it lists as a GVII.
Precisely, it says "Graphic View..Manufactured In USA by Graflex Inc. Rochester 8, New York...US Patent Nos 2,257,001, 2,301,921 AND 2,500,058."
And, Yes, there is an "8" after the word Rochester. What's the "8" in there for??
Did they ever put Graphic View II on the front or is it just purely based on serial number?
I mentioned it was in pristine condition...correction, looks like the lens needs a lube job. I'm gonna try to contact the illustrious Mr. SK Grimes. |

the "8" after rochester is the Zone Postal Code. It was started in '43 and lasted until '64 when the ZIP code came out. What they used to do with one number we now need 9.
To LelandRay: you missed a digit somewhere. 48,XXX would make your GV a very rare 1914 model. |

Okay, my original 1914 Graphic View II is now 4 $ale at a bargain basement price of $1,000,000 (yes, ONE MILLION DOLLARS).
If nobody wants it at this price I'll add the other digit into the serial number, making it 481950, NOT 48150.
I can't even write down a number correctly, so memorizing one for a couple of minutes is totally beyond me. Sheesh.

To my knowledge, the name plate for the GV and GVII both say just "Graphic View." There was never a notation to show the "II." The plate for the GV has one patent number, while three numbers are listed in the same place in the fine print on the bottom of the II plate. Otherwise, they appear to be the same, right down to the "8" after Rochester. I have never seen a name plate that showed the camera was a "II" other than by difference in the patent numbers.
Regards,

My Graphic View II has a graflok back, black bellows, mottled finish, rail is 17 in and the plate on the front of the camera only says Graphic View, Made by Graflex Inc., Rochester NY USA, Graflex, General Precision. How do I date? Is there another set of numbers somewhere? Thanks for the help. |

The eaisest way to tell the differance between a View and a View Two is the support arms on the front standard, the view had straight arms that had two attachment points and the View II has bent arms with three attachment points.

The serial number is stamped on the rear standard on a vertical surface near the bottom. I'ts probably on the side that faces the lens.
