| Does anyone have any info regarding the bags on various models of bagmags? Some appear to have just one leather bag, while others have an inner liner, which appears to be made of wool. Chris |

| Chris....Have repaired about 30 Bagmags over the years....they all had the inner lining in them...believe that perhaps, if you have one without that in-liner, it may have been removed for ? reason, or just got so bad that it had to be removed! Have 7 or 8 bagmags in a box somewhere in my parts closet....they all have the innerds also!.....Bert |

I don't know much about bag-mags but the liner is new to me. I just made a new bag for a 3X4 version (something I don't care to do again) and it had neither liner nor evidence that there ever was one. I have good reason to believe it had never been taken apart. Could there have been an upgrade version?

Thanks, Bert! I just wanted to get an experienced opinion.
Glen, is your bagmag an older version perhaps? I have an early 4x5 version with
the leather covered case. The leather bag
is in excellent shape, and there does not appear to be any inner liner bag. My later
versions all have the liner. Chris |

I believe mine is an older version. The metal parts have a grey finish similar to the metal parts on the early Graphic cameras. It is a 3X4.
The bags wih the liner in them may provide some additional protection against light leaks but it seems to me that they would also contribute to dust on the film (ack!). I made my new bag out of rubberized bellows cloth. I'm almost out of my secret stash of it and wish I could find more.

Just to be "on topic"  As I rmember, by bagmag has no inner lining. A 4x5 model, but it's been packed away for a while. Still looking for a plate (not film) model...
And for therubberized material. It is available. My first dark cloth is made out of that stuff. Unfortunately, I can't find another one... Okay, that doesn't help much...
But in my search for another dark cloth, I found the rubberized material. I could search again because my memory isn't what it used to be, but I'm pretty sure it's offer at Porter's. If you go to their site and search for "dark cloth" I think it will come up in the list...

There is another thread here someplace that describes the difference. One major distiction on the outside is the placement of the red window. One is centered and one of off-centered. I don't remember which right now.
Another difference is the size of the septums. The plate septums are larger, by a very slight amount. And of course hold a thicker material. Yours sound like plate septums. Film septums are just thick enough to squeeze a sheet of film into.
I can't say mcuh more because I've never seen a plate bagmag. One of the reasons I've been trying to find one. Another is the box of septums I have sitting here someplace

The magazines for plates will hold 16 film septums (nice!). In fact, Graflex made film septums which were numbered up to 16 just for that purpose. Very hard to find.

My bagmag with the deeper septums holds
only 12 of them. They are obviously deeper than those found on the more modern unit (the ones with gray crackle finish on the back cover). The older one is covered in leather to match the RB Series B.

Wow, that would be nice!
But that also makes me wonder. As I remember, my box of septums marked "Plate" are numbered to 12, obviously thicker than the film septums, but not by a whole lot, and larger slightly in size than the film septums. So I can't use them in anything which is why I was hoping to find a plate bagmag. With my luck they wouldn't fit that either
Now I'll have to dig them out and have another look. Maybe they do go to 16? But the chance of finding the holder seems pretty slim nowadays...

You are correct about the plate mags with plate septums being numbered 1 thru 12. The film septums, however, are thinner and 16 will fit in the plate mag. Makes a nice setup if you can find all the pieces to put it to use. Every now and then, film septums for bag mags show up on ebay. They usually go really cheap, mostly because people don't know what they are good for.
