Do you know if there is an on-line site that describes service & disassembly instructions (do the knob & counter just pop off?)

Not to answer your question directly, but there is a parts and repair manual available (reprint of factory manual). See http://www.photobooksonline.com/books/manual03CAM.html . Scroll down to items #90197 and #80009. Be aware that these roll holders came in different versions. I have manual #80009 and it's dated January 1965, but I believe that there were some design changes when company ownership changed. My manual is for the knob advance, and lever advance with the two screws on top of the lever. There's also a lever design without the screws.
