Hi Everyone,
I'm fairly new to the site and find it great!
My dad recently passed away and left me his Crown Graphic (needs cleaning a bit), with 4 lenses, many film slides and other stuff. Biggest question I have with it is what NOT to use as a cleaning solution for initial cleaning. I'm assuming a Qtip and a little alcohol might be okay, and I saw the post about any lubricant needs.... So I am fairly clear there. I have a fair amount of old negatives also that need to be cleaned and stored properly, most of these are 4X5's and 120's. Not a big thing there.
Next, a little guidance. He also left me with his Zeiss Ikon Kilo, and so far I cannot find much on the internet regarding it.... (Unless I can read German fluently! Which I can't. LOL) Does anyone know of an internet source regarding these?

Forgive the ignorance, but I've never heard of a Kilo. Please tell us more about it. |

| Old Google, says a Zeiss Kilo is a bellows camera F7.5 Lens Cira about 1945 (35mm). Lens is Anistigmat Novar. Some comment that G.I.'s traded a Kilo of butter for these,cannot verify that comment. Russ |

My error it's says "KLIO" on the lense and it is a 120 format bellows with a Novar-Anastigmat 1:6.3 f=7.5 cm lense. I typed 'kilo' in a search for information on the internet and had a reference hit for it as the "high" end of the model line. Possibly a false hit on that, as it did not have any details....
However, this is a 120 format camera, very distinctive in that aspect.
idman, your description is pretty close other than the format. I can take any number of digital shoots of it and send to anyone interested.

| New news, this could be a 620 film rather than a 120, not much difference in the two other than the spools..... |

| Ken there are 2 items on e-bay you should look at. They refer to Zeiss Nettars with Klios shutters and are 120 folders. They are items 2923124494 and 2922679325. 6x9 format. I don't think you going to see any German cameras in 620 format, as this was Kodaks pride and joy. Russ |

Stupid me judt examined it in some brighter light and discovered the following stamped in the leather: IKonta 521 serial number 52762.
It appears this was later broken out into 3 different models and the base model (like this one) were discontinued sometime before 1950. (Geez, this thing could be older than me! LOL)
The IKonta 521 C was made through 1956, however the smaller ones versions were discontinued much earlier from what I've found so far.

I don't speak Zeiss very well, but given the lens' focal length it has to be (nominal) 6x6 (square gate) or 6x4.5 (rectangular gate). Either way, the Novar is a triplet and not highly respected. Ought to be ok if stopped down to f/11 or smaller, though, if it is clean internally. Best thing to do is sacrifice a roll of film to find out if the shutter is roughly on speed and if the results please. |
