Good afternoon,

I recently bought a pacemaker speed graphic from ebay and a previous owner decided to remove the focal shutter plate and the shutter selector switch. The ebay seller included the parts and pieces but i was hoping someone can provide a photo or two of how the mechanism is supposed to look so i can try to reassemble the plate on to the camera body?

1. download the factory service manual https://graflex.org/manuals/45-Pacemaker-Speed-and-Crown-Graphic.pdf
2. remove the camera back, it appears to be a Graphic Back, 2 screws top (3/8 inch long) and 3 screws (1/2 inch long) bottom. Graflok Back has a #1 wood screw center of the film insertion slot requiring the focus panel to be removed to access it.
3. turn the top curtain roller gear until the top of the O aperture is between the top film opening guide and bottom edge of the top roller.
4. on the shutter plate set the governor selector to High (rear facing). The selector should be center or Rear position. Turn the wind key until the O is centered of the speed window.
5. position the shutter plate onto the body inserting the tension (lower) roller shaft into the hole at the bottom and the top roller into the top hole turning the roller as needed to mesh the roller gears with the wind gear. Turn the roller upward as needed to mesh the gears. Too high of a starting position will result in one of the other apertures to not be below the guide at the bottom of the film gate at the end of release or the curtain will not wind to the fastest speed/smallest aperture. Too low of a starting position the curtain will not cover the film gate when wound to some speed positions.
6. slide the switch to the release position and hold while turning the tension slot in the lower roller shaft counterclockwise until the curtain is fully in the closed position.
7. install the tension retainer and turn the slot in the tension shaft 6 to 8 turns counterclockwise then install the tension retainer screw.
8. wind the curtain to the highest speed. Using the body release or the slide switch run the curtain down to closed after open 5 to 10 times. Wind to the O position and check the position of the top of the O aperture opening, it should be above the top film gate guide.
9. release the initial tension and position the curtain as needed if needed.
10. reset the initial tension to 6 to 8 turns.
11. wind to the O aperture with the tension set to Lo (forward), turn the camera on its side (portrait orientation) and release the shutter. The shutter should close with the wind key against the stop. If it closes too hard release the initial in 1/2 turn increments until it closes from O and locks without a hard snap. If the wind key does not turn to the stop (locked) then increase the initial tension in 1/2 turns increments until it does.
12. Install the cover when correct.
13. reinstall the back.

These instructions differ from the service manual slightly but work equally as well and may be more suited to the cameras as it is now. If the initial tension requires more than 12 turns to get the shutter to close fully from O with the camera in any position then there is a problem with the shutter. It might be a good idea to lube the curtain roller bushings (graphited grease called for but light to medium weight teflon bike grease works fine) and oil (light weight machine oil/clock oil; no WD40 or 3in1 oil) the roller bushings and gear shafts on the shutter control plate before assembling.
