I just got in a speed graphic, and while I was taking it apart to fix some things, the end of the curtain roller came off and the end spun major CRAPPO !
looking at it I can see several keys that both ends have that key into the brass tube. when I pulled out the spring rod I can see two tandem springs connected in the center and wound in opposite directions. one spring seams to be a stronger spring then the other one. so the only thing I can figure is that the lesser spring is loaded or unloaded by turning one of the ends. but does one start Lol
i do have a shutter speed tester, but could use some advise as where to start
i did however record the amount of turns the spring was wound to before removing the plate, 14 1/2 turns. worst case scenario i can start there and figure it out....but eash !

as your guide to reassemble the shutter. The individual springs are not covered. I have no experience with this type spring assembly. Earlier cameras were a single spring retained on one end (Left) and tensioned on the right. I think this two spring configuration works the same with each spring the same tension. I don't think the springs work independently of each other or that one tensions fully before the other starts to tension.
The left end of the roller will need to be disengaged from the assembly by lifting up the locking tabs, hooking the spring into the retainer clip on the end, tensioning the spring in the same direction as the right spring then without loosing the tension reengage the end onto the assembly and fold the locking tabs down. _________________ The best camera ever made is the one that YOU enjoy using and produces the image quality that satifies YOU. |
