I received a Compact from a family member that is in pretty poor shape. There is lots of friction when cocking the mirror. So much so that the mirror barely moves when the shutter release is pressed, even with the lower tensioner on 6 and the upper one at 1/8. What controls the action of the mirror? From my research I know that the curtain is controlled by the upper and lower tensioners but I don't understand what controls the mirror.
Secondly, my camera seems to have two curtains. The outer curtain with the apertures in it but there appears to be another one behind it. What controls the inner curtain? I don't see this mentioned in any of the service manuals for similar cameras. |

So after more research I have discovered the second curtain is call the "capping shutter". Apparently this is only found in early models and the design was abandoned. So now the question is how do I fix it? I can't find a repair manual for a graflex that has a capping shutter. |
