Greetings to all. I have a newer Speed Graphic with the bi-post connector at the focal plane shutter and a single pin connector on the front lens next to the shutter cocking mechanism. The shutter is x-synched for electronic flash. My lens says Graphic Synchro-Compur on the front. I have a Vivitar 285HV and a Metz 45CL4 flash. Which do you think would be the best to use? Another question also is whether or not I should use the front lens connector or the focal plane shutter bi-post connector(is it synched for electronic flash). Also, what type of adapter pc cables would I use? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.

| Use the Synchro Compur with electronic flash, the focal plane shutter does not synchronize with electronic flash.
Which flash to use? Either will work, but IIRC, the Metz is more powerful. |

The Focal Plane Shutter contacts only work when the FPS is the taking shutter and only sync with FP or slow burn type flash bulbs. A sheet of film exposed with the FPS and electronic flash will have a bright/correctly exposed band approximately the width of the curtain slit at the top of the film when on the camera (bottom of picture) with some light falloff slightly illuminating 1/4 to 1/3 of the frame area.
The Metz 45CT4 works very well on 4x5 speed graphics.
