Some of my older wooden holders have darkslides that bind and stick; I've cleaned the holders as best I can (they do not come apart). I switched the darkslides around to get the best function, but they are still irritating. I wiped down one set of slides with silicone spray and that seemed to help, but I am uneasy with that as it may attract dirt.
Any ideas? |

First thing ya gotta do is stopp takin those dirty pictures!
Seriously, all my holders are old, maybe even older than me?
I personally don't like a whole storehouse of different lubricants or anything else for that matter. Simplify! I have found one of the best all-round lubricants, and recommended for many thing by Gralfex, is simple paraffin. Since I'm also interested in candle making, I usually have quite a few boxes around. They're available in hardware store and even food store in canning season. Break off a piece and rub it on anything that needs lubticating. Or almost anything anyway It's much like wax. Melts at a lower temperature. Lubraicates very well and most of it will wipe off if needed...
By the way, I just do the edges of the slides or things could get messy...

Parafin, Minwax finishing wax. Check to make sure the problem isn't due to warpage or damaged light seals where the slide goes in. Old is good, AND cheap.
