Just got 2 Grafmatic 4x5's in the mail. Everything looks to be in great shape. One problem, when I opened them to load the film, a metal plate with felt on it popped out. It seems to have come from above the film. It happened on both. Looks like the glue just gave out from old age. Any suggestions on sticking it back in? I can't seem to find the spot looking in, so I may need to take it apart. Anybody have plans, instructions, etc. for that?
Thanks,
Brett |

Sounds like one of the light traps came out.
I have put a scan of the assembly diagram here It's 867kb in size.
The light traps are #7,45,and 13a. |

That was it. Got it apart, glued it in and it's back together and working now. Thanks. |

I also had this happen on two Grafmatic backs recently acquired. It is indeed easy to fix if you have the loose light trap.
A related issue is that there are probably Grafmatics out there that have lost the trap earlier, and are being offered for purchase. You cannot tell if the trap is missing without disassembling the back. If the part is not available a suitable replacement could probably be made from felt or suede leather.
