Can anybody tell me if all the graflex/subsea roll film holders are terrible? I bought one online and i couldnt quite read the logo, i thought it said singer in the digital picture, but after comaparing it to back online i determined that the logo and label definately is subsea. Did i make a bad decision?
Thank you |

| Maybe.
Some years ago I bought a Graflex/Subsea RH-8 at a camera show. The seller represented it as new and unused, it certainly was in the original box with directions.
Mine was a bad mistake. Frame counter went to 8, the shell's gate was for 3 1/16 x 2 1/4, had pin rollers. But and however, the gears were for 2 3/4 x 2 1/4.
I had it overhauled and made right by Armato, in NYC. The gears now in it give good frame spacing but it sometimes jams, not sure why.
You'll have to wait for yours to arrive and try it out before you know whether you're in trouble. I won't risk buying a SubSea RH again unless I can return it and get all of my money, including return shipping, back with no questions asked. I hope mine was an aberration and yours is ok.
Cheers,

Whew! I looked at that thing and figured I'd been happy with all sorts of genyooowine Graflex and Singer backs in years past so I sprung for a 4X5 RH-8 (with pin rollers and totally unnecessary rapid wind).
