Can anyone tell me (and I hope this is not a stupid question) if the film insert for the RH/10 Graflex/Singer 6x7 film back is interchangeable between the 2x3 outer shell and the 4x5 outer shell? Reason I am asking is I have a RH/10 for the 2x3 Graflok roll film back, but I want to purchase a 4x5 RH/10 Graflok roll film back. My 2x3 film insert is a newer version with the pin rollers that keep the film nice and flat. I was thinking of buying an older 4x5 back with the older lever or knob wind insert and just swith the inserts. Is this possible? |

I don't know, but there's a 4X5 RH-10 on you-know-where right now.

As far as I have been able to determine, the various inserts will fit any shell, pin rollers or not, as the rollers are in the shell and the insert pressure plate seems to be the same on all. The only thing you need to watch for is film gate size. For instance, you can put a 6X7 insert in a 6X9 shell but the frame spacing/advance stops will be all screwed up. You have to use a shell/insert combo with matching gate sizes. Other than that the RH, 22 and 23 insert/shell combos will interchage.

do a search for Singer roll holder on this site. I seem to remember finding out that the last version of the lever wind, the ones with either the chrome or black levers, would NOT interchange with older holders and inserts.
The ones with the color coded levers I think will mix with knob winds.

Les, you may be right. I never had one with the chrome or black levers. They seem to be more rare than the others. Something to consider.

I have an RH20 Singer Graflex Roll Holder (date code C5A) for 2x3; this one has the redesigned (slimmer) black lever. The insert fits all three of my RH10 holders (these are all marked "Graflex General Precision" and have the light blue plastic levers, but only one is date coded, with G9E). I've never run any 220 film through the RH20 so I can't say that it's light-tight in the RH10 shells, or for that matter in its own shell.
