I have the opportunity to swap a well worn 545 that I got working better by fooling around with the 'catch' lever, but it's pretty beat.
A much newer-looking one is basically serving as a dust cap on a microscope camera at work and I was told I could swap them.
The new one initially was a bit uncooperative accepting a piece of test film. I opened the roller access door, pulled some lint out, raised & lowered the rubber roller on it's hinge, closed it and tried again.
It now seems fine, but I am curious about the rubber roller. The ends seem to get thicker at the very end, analogous to a 'meniscus', but the roller appears flat across the rest of it and I see no gap.
I'll take a look at the old holder. I seem to recall this appearance on it too, but they are both old and had not been used for a few to several years.
I haven't shot with one so it's all new to me.
Thanks

I guess I didn't exactly state my question -"What is the normal appearance of this roller", compared to my description?
Thanks

Thanks for the clarification
I just checked my Pro holder and it verifies what my memory was telling me. Those rubber rollers never look too good... My Pro (in the best shape of all of them) is fairly straight the whole length, except for the last 1/4 to 1/8 inch at the ends. There it flairs out a bit. My other 545's are not quite in such good shape. My old 545 was so bad I thought the roller would need replacing. But it works just fine...
